In tough times, some of the most important information that assists wineries in the day to day operations of their business involve engineering developments, improvements and efficiencies.
In June, the Winery Engineering Association Ltd will host its annual conference and exhibition in Adelaide in a special two-day event themed “Engineering for the competitive edge”.
The 2006 WEA Annual Conference and Exhibition is designed to facilitate the innovation and development interests of wine industry engineers, winemakers, maintenance staff and suppliers. According to WEA conference and exhibition organiser, Trevor Leighton, the 2006 annual conference will present segments on refrigeration, environmental issues, packaging, production, benchmarking performance, lean manufacturing, resource utilisation, quality assurance, process control and filtration.
“This year’s emphasis is on improvements and innovations to bring about cost efficiencies and competitiveness,” said Leighton.
“Another new aspect is the introduction of the research paper section which will give emphasis to research and development in the winery and the industry.”
The 2006 conference will be held at Morphetville racecourse on June 21 and 22.
Call for technical papers
A special forum devoted to technical papers will be initiated this year at the WEA Annual Conference and Exhibition and run within the existing conference framework. Dr Vincent O’Brien of Provisor is coordinating the submission, acceptance, presentation and publishing of technical papers.
“Papers must include either an evaluation of published literature and current technology or summarise new research results contributing significant new knowledge,” O’Brien said. “Papers will be peer reviewed by an independent panel prior to acceptance and publication.”
Abstracts must be 1000 words or less and contain the following:
· A title providing an accurate description of the content · A summary of research outcomes and methodologies · All figures and tables
Deadline for abstract submission is 3 March 2006, and deadline for paper submission 14 April. Expressions of interest in the first instance may be directed to Dr O’Brien at Provisor on (08) 8303 8700 or visit www.wea.org.au
