The South Coast Wine Show took place on January 22, with a record 164 wines from 25 wineries participating.
Seven gold, 15 silver and 64 bronze medals were awarded from the zone’s wine regions, which includes the Shoalhaven Coast and Southern Highlands.
Chief judge David Morris of Morris Wines Rutherglen says the general standard was higher than last year, with an increase in the percentage of medals to entries awarded.
“The dry white classes were the strongest section of the show with the Semillon class being exceptionally strong,” he said.
“There were also good examples of Riesling and the Chardonnay class, which was by far stronger than it has been in the past, and while the dry reds were again not as strong as the white wines, the quality was up on last year, with more fruit characters evident.
“I congratulate all the trophy and award winners, and encourage others to strive for fruit freshness and flavour profile to achieve medal status."
Results will be announced at the presentation dinner at The Vineyard Kitchen, Ulladulla, on Friday 5th February.
Bookings are open and can be made by calling the restaurant on (02) 4455 7888.
Results will be posted on the Wine Show website www.southcoastwineshow.blogspot.com on 6 February and local media from that date.
