Nine of Coonawarra’s finest barrels of 2008 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon will go under the hammer on October 18.
The annual event is called the Barrel Series 12 Wine Auction and it takes place during the Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations held on October 16–18.
The event was conceived 12 years ago by the Coonawarra Vignerons Association as a way to showcase the craftsmanship of the region’s winemakers.
It involves Coonawarra winemakers selecting their best barrel of 2008 Vintage Cabernet Sauvignon to be appraised before a panel of peers.
To date, the auction has seen over $100,000 donated to various charities, with the net proceeds from selling the barrels to be donated to the Penola Primary School this year.
Bidding will be enabled online, making it possible to bid for the barrels from anywhere in the world.
The following wineries will offer a barrel for auction:
Brand’s Laira Coonawarra
Wynns Coonawarra Estate
Yalumba Coonawarra Estate “The Menzies”
Along with the Barrel Series 12 Auction, the weekend’s Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations involves over 30 cellar door events, including live entertainment, food, dinners and wine.
