The Institute of Masters of Wine has made three new appointments to its board.
Stephen Skelton MW, Jane Skilton MW and Jean-Michel Valette MW were elected by their fellow Masters of Wine at the Institute’s Annual General Meeting last week.
Jane Skilton is a writer and educator based in New Zealand.
She runs a wine review website, Independent Wine Monthly, and contributes to a number of other publications.
She established the New Zealand School of Wines and Spirits in 2003.
“The Institute is a global organisation and I felt it was important that Australia and New Zealand members had a voice on Council,” Skilton said.
“I am looking forward to being part of a dynamic and active team.”
Jean-Michel Valette lives in San Francisco.
He is chairman of Peet’s Coffee & Tea, and of Vinfolio, an internet-based fine wine retailer.
He was formerly managing director and chairman of Robert Mondavi winery in Oakville, and prior to this he worked at Franciscan Estates as chief executive officer.
On his election he said was honoured to be entrusted with the leadership role.
“And (honoured) to be part of an organisation of such diverse and accomplished wine professionals,” he said.
Stephen Skelton is a consultant to the English and Welsh wine industry.
He has written and lectured widely on English wine and has published three books, most recently, his UK Vineyards Guide.
He currently sits on the institute’s Education Committee.
“I am very pleased to be elected to Council and look forward to bringing my experience of working with students around the world to the table,” Skelton said.
