On 22 August, Mitchelton Winery will be holding a fundraiser for 12-year-old victim and orphan of the Black Saturday firestorms, Maddison Bartlett.
During the firestorm Maddison tragically lost her mother, father, only sister and the family home. She will eventually reside with her grandparents who will assume parenting responsibilities and will care for her into the future.
Maddison initially spent five weeks in intensive care at the Royal Children’s Hospital. She is now in the burns unit where she is undergoing gruelling physiotherapy every day, now able to move about in a wheel chair and is also able to take short walks with the aid of a walking frame. She has had several skin graft operations, but will have to endure many into adulthood and is also suffering from the associated psychological traumas.
This event is being held to assist the foundation in raising vital funds to help with future rehab and the day-to-day challenges she is going to face for the rest of her life. Proceeds raised at this event will go directly to Maddison’s future.
Former Australian cricketer and Channel Nine television host Simon O'Donnell will MC the event, with Drayton's winemaker William Rikard-Bell, inspirational survivor of the fires, as special guest speaker.
The event is $100 per person which includes dinner and wine on the night, door prizes and a special 'one night only' wine clearance with all proceeds going to the Maddison Bartlett Foundation.
