Nominations have now opened for The Wine Society’s Young Winemaker of the Year Awards. For the first time, nominees can now apply online at a new dedicated micro site — www.youngwinemaker.com.au — which launched yesterday.
The new micro site allows nominees easy access to information including nominations and judging, history of the awards, previous winners and details of the event.
The Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year Awards recognise and reward the efforts of winemakers under the age of 30 who are primarily responsible for the production of the wine. The annual black-tie gala in November, which is now in its ninth year, attracts impressive entries from both Australia’s and New Zealand’s top wineries.
The Wine Society’s 2008 Young Winemaker of the Year was Ben Haines of Mitchelton Wines, Nagambie, Victoria. In addition to the Young Winemaker title, there are also the Members’ Choice and Sommeliers’ Choice Awards.
Nominations close on Friday, 28 August and the top 10 Finalists will be notified by mid-September. The winner will then be announced at the awards dinner at the Westin Hotel in Sydney on 20 November.
