Tidswell Wines awarded top drop at global wine show

The international wine industry spotlight has been cast on a bold Cabernet Sauvignon, produced by Tidswell Wines in the heart of South Australia’s Limestone Coast.

The boutique producer outshone global competitors to take home gold for its 2005 Heathfield Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon at the International Wine Challenge, one of a string of high-profile accolades recently secured.

Proprietor Ben Tidswell said he was honoured to be in the company of such prestigious global winemakers – and to go onto win one of the top prizes.

“The award is a testament to our dedicated team and shows that our 2005 Heathfield Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon is world-class,” Tidswell said.

More than 9500 entries were received by the International Wine Challenge and were judged by 370 winemakers, merchants and wine writers.

“The International Wine Challenge is one of the biggest and best blind tasting competitions in the world,” Tidswell said. “This recent award for the 2005 Heathfield Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon follows a gold medal at the San Francisco International Wine Show and silver at the International Wine and Spirit Competition.”

Tidswell said the Cabernet Sauvignon had become a signature variety for the winery’s estate grown vineyards in the Limestone Coast’s terra rossa soils.

“The 2005 vintage has great length with an elegant bouquet of cassis and creamy oak, and on the palate there is a balance of rich fruit flavours, silky tannins with abundant floral and cedar nuances,” he said.

Tidswell said winemaking at Tidswell is all about producing estate grown varietal wines that people can enjoy with friends and family.

“We make wine that will enhance the flavour of fine food, which we like to call ‘seriously drinkable wines’,” he said.

The Heathfield Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon is now competing for a coveted International Wine Challenge Champion Trophy at an exclusive awards dinner at London’s Grosvenor Hotel in September.

Tidswell Wines was established in 1994 and has three labels; Heathfield Ridge, Caves Road and Jennifer. The winery is situated just four kilometres from Bool Lagoon, the internationally recognised wetland in South Australia’s Limestone Coast.
