Full marks for Buller from Robert Parker

Five Buller wines in total were praised by Parker. They are: Calliope Rare Muscat NV (96 points), Premium Fine Muscat (96 points), Premium Fine Tokay (95 points) and Victoria Tawny (92 points).
“Readers need to be aware that these fortifieds must be tasted to be believed as they are among the world’s most profound after-dinner fortified wines,” said Parker in his report.
Of the Calliope he said, “The prodigious, dark amber-coloured Calliope Rare Tokay boasts colossal aromatics and flavours of melted caramels, coffee, toffee, candied fruits marinated in cognac, magnificent richness, and a huge finish that lasts over 70 seconds.”
Parker’s effusive reviews come on top of Buller’s extensive listing in the 2006 edition of Quaff, an annual publication of the 400 best value wines in Australia. Editor Peter Forrestal included the Victoria Tokay, Victoria Tawny, Victoria Muscat, Caspia Chardonnay and Fine Old Tokay in the new edition.
“To get one positive review from Robert Parker is fantastic. To get two consecutively is just unbelievable. Naturally, we’re thrilled,” said Michael Matthews of Buller Wines.
“And to be included in Quaff is a real achievement. We endeavour to make affordable wines that don’t skimp on quality and our inclusion in Quaff is proof of that. ” he said.
Buller Wines is a fourth generation winemaking family renowned for producing both table and fortified wines of excellence. Today, 84 years after Reginald Langdon Buller established Buller Wines, his legacy is sustained by grandsons Andrew and Richard, who manage the Buller family wineries at Rutherglen and Beverford.
