The Reynella-based Company was the outstanding performer at the Safe Work Awards 2005, winning two of the nine major awards. They were: best workplace health and safety management system award, and; employer of the year award (medium/large business – 50+ workers). It is the second time in four years that Hardy Wine Company has received the Employer of the Year Award following its win in 2001. In addition, the company’s Nathan Geddie, from its quality assurance department, was a finalist in the Health and Safety Representative of the Year category. “This is a wonderful achievement for the entire Hardy Wine Company team,” managing director and chief executive officer, David Woods, said. “We pride ourselves on the occupational health and safety standards we have in operation throughout the company,” he said. “For us, it is a matter of continuous improvement. We can never do enough to ensure our personnel are working in the safest possible environment." The State Government’s Safe Work Awards are awarded annually to South Australian businesses leading the way in workplace health and safety. This year’s awards were announced at a ceremony at the Adelaide Convention Centre. The Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System Award recognises the company’s demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement of workplace health and safety, through the implementation of an integrated systems approach. The Employer of the Year Award recognised Hardy Wine Company’s outstanding leadership and excellent performance in the areas of OH&S and injury management. The company will now represent South Australia in both categories at the National Safety Awards next year.
