The Riverland is set to boost its contribution to building a sustainable Australian wine industry with the appointment of Shay McQuade as general manager of the Riverland Wine Industry Development Council (RWIDC).
McQuade has extensive experience in sales, marketing and operational roles gained in large and diverse international organisations, most recently as general manager of business development at Amcor Australasia where he developed and implemented a wine segment growth strategy across Australasia.
Working with wine grapegrowers and wine producers in the Riverland, the RWIDC aims to promote and develop the Riverland wine region which accounts for around half of South Australia’s total crush and about one quarter of Australia’s production.
RWIDC chair, Roseanne Healy, said the appointment provided the RWIDC with strong strategic experience and leadership.
“Mr McQuade has extensive experience in driving business development and an excellent record in achieving results in the wine sector,” Healy said.
“He brings strong project management, commercial management and high level stakeholder management skills and will work closely with the Council in identifying, building and implementing strategic opportunities to drive and shape regional wine industry programs.
“This key appointment will enable us to enhance the Riverland’s capabilities, capacity and competitiveness in a global environment and deliver on the RWIDC strategic plan."
The Riverland region surrounds the River Murray from Blanchetown through Renmark to the Victorian border. The region has approximately 1,300 wine grape growers and an emerging boutique wine industry.
