OzPak maintains its standards

Australian contract wine bottling and packaging company Ozpak has achieved its fourth A-rating following an audit against the British Retail Consortium (BRC) global standard for food safety and achieved accreditation to the recently-updated ISO 9001:2008 international standard.

BRC developed and introduced the first of its global standards in 1998 to evaluate manufacturers of retailers’ own brand food products for sale in the UK. In gaining BRC certification, suppliers demonstrate they are competent to produce a safe and legal product that is produced to a minimum standard. BRC standards have since been adopted outside the UK, with the Australian Wine & Brandy Corporation (AWBC) now requiring offshore contract bottlers to have BRC accreditation if they are to bottle Australian wine products.

Based just outside Nagambie, in Central Victoria, Ozpak packages 2.5 million cases of 750ml x12 pack equivalents annually. It became the first wine packaging company in Australia to achieve BRC accreditation back in 2002 and has maintained its A-rating for the last four years.

To maintain its accreditations and ratings across its various standards programs, Ozpak employs a person dedicated to the tracking and maintenance of its operating procedures.

Along with its ISO accreditation, Ozpak has long been HACCP accredited, while its wine testing laboratory has National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accreditation, enabling Ozpak to provide the chemical analysis reporting required by the AWBC to accompany any Australian wine that is being exported.

Ozpak chief executive Andrew McPherson said, “We have always strived to provide a world class wine bottling and packaging facility which achieves and maintains the highest level of professional standards. Our HACCP, NATA, BRC and ISO ratings all demonstrate our commitment to this cause. The rigorous nature of the BRC accreditation, and the maintenance of our A-rating, is a great achievement and a testament to the hard work and diligence of the Ozpak team.”
