Cleggett Wines new cellar door opens at Langhorne Creek

If you have travelled the Strathalbyn to Langhorne Creek road in South Australia in the past 12 months, you may have noticed a two-story building taking shape on the main road. It is now complete and Anne McLennan and Mac Cleggett invite everyone to visit their sparkling new cellar door outlet on the ground floor.

With its cool terrazzo polished floor and large double-glazed windows overlooking the vineyards, it is a great place to taste some new wine styles and indulge in a light lunch from Friday to Sunday and public holidays. Cleggett Wines White Cabernet Sauvignon Shalistin is the star attraction, closely followed by Sparkling Bronze Cabernet Sauvignon produced from Malian grapes.

The building features many environmentally friendly aspects, including solar panels, double-glazing, and wide eaves. Strategically placed windows and doors allow the cool afternoon breezes through to cool the top story late in the day. A large concrete tank provides rainwater internally. The garden will be progressively planted with drought resistant plants as well as having the advantage of recycled water to use.

“This development is our way of showing faith in the future of the Langhorne Creek wine region and a small attempt to live and work in a more sustainable manner,” Anne said. “With cellar door and offices on the ground floor and living upstairs, the separation of work and home is easy and convenient.”

Over the coming months, further development is planned with outdoor seating and landscaping taking shape and interesting produce available for sale.

Cleggett Wines at Langhorne Creek is open seven days, 10am–6pm during daylight saving. Call in and enjoy good wine, food and hospitality.
