New editor for The Age Good Food Guide

Janne Apelgren, a widely respected editor and passionate food lover, is the new editor of The Age Good Food Guide, one of Australia's most popular and prestigious publications on restaurants and dining.

Janne is a former editor of The Age's Epicure section, day editor of The Age and, during her three decades of writing and editing, she has held leadership roles on The Sunday Age, several magazines, and most recently, was launch editor of the Herald Sun’s food section.

In her new role, Janne will oversee all aspects of The Age Good Food Guide, from content to design and tone, building on the standards that have propelled it to become the leading Melbourne restaurant guide on the market.

Janne said: “I'm honoured to have the opportunity to edit the 30th anniversary edition of Australia's most prestigious restaurant guide, and to play a part in Melbourne's culinary history. The Age Good Food Guide is a bible for Victorian food lovers, and the guide's team has the wonderful task of finding the most exciting and extraordinary new places to eat around Melbourne, as well as the entire state, from along the Murray, to the farthest reaches of East Gippsland.

“I was with The Age when the first guide was published, and looking back, it's a fascinating reminder of how our city has changed. In 2009 we have burgeoning new restaurant precincts, it's amazing to note that some of the same restaurants and chefs who appeared in the very first guide will very likely still be there for the next one. It's my firm belief that nowhere in the world can you eat as well as you can in the city of Melbourne. And nowhere is that understood better than in The Age Good Food Guide.”
