South Coast Wine Show 2009

Over 140 entries have been received for the 2009 South Coast Wine Show judging. The South Coast Wine Zone includes the Southern Highlands and Shoalhaven Coast Wine Regions.

Both red and white table wines as well as fortifieds are well represented over a number of classes.

The strongest appear to be Shiraz and Chambourcin in the reds and Chardonnay with Semillon not far behind in the whites. Chambourcin is a disease resistant French hybrid grape planted all over the Shoalhaven Coast and is used for the production of red and rose' table wines as well as port styles. It is also now found a new niche in the sparkling red wine category.

A public tasting of wine show entries will take place at the Milton Showground pavilion between 6 and 8pm on Saturday 24th January. Cost of $15 per head includes wine, finger food and Unicorn cheese.Tickets are available at the door.

Last year judges awarded a total of 71 medals including 9 Gold, 17 Silver and 45 Bronze medals. Presentation of 2009 awards will take place at The Vineyard Kitchen, Cuppits Winery, Ulladulla on Friday 6th February at a Wine Dinner.
