28th Annual Coonawarra Vignerons Cup

The sun was shining, the wine was flowing and the races were running at the 28th Annual Coonawarra Vignerons Cup on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the Penola Racecourse. Throughout the day, the Vignerons hosted an Imperial Coonawarra Wine Auction with 12 Imperials (6 Litres), going across the block. These special bottles were packaged and bottled exclusively for the Coonawarra Cup. Proceeds from this auction will go to charity. Betting enthusiasts were not left out as there was also a Calcutta Auction with the 1st prize winner, Graham Pollard taking home over $7,200. New Chairman of the Coonawarra Cup Committee, Mr. Tim Bailey said “It was great to be involved in the organizing of such a great day. It’s a perfect chance for the Coonawarra Vignerons Association to showcase their wines in a fun-filled and exciting day.” Sandhill Prince (trained by Sam Turner) took home the Coonawarra Vignerons Cup for the second year in a row as crowds cheered jockey Dom Tourneur across the finish line!
