Margaret River, Western Australia Wednesday 10th December 2008
Lunch with a $2m view is one of the highlights of a new wine touring experience in Margaret River.
The Best of the Best Wine Tour is a new addition to the Margaret River Discovery Company’s range of touring experiences, and has been introduced to cater for summer demand.
The one day Best of the Best Wine Tour itinerary includes a sample of Margaret River’s best wineries, from small emerging superstars to esteemed estates.
Included in the six hour tour is a behind-the-scenes experience in a Margaret River vineyard plus a very special food and wine pairing lunch at Cape Mentelle winery.
“Cape Mentelle is a real highlight. Seated among their best hundred Cabernet Sauvignon barrels, it’s a room with a $2 million view,” said tour host, Sean Blocksidge.
“You experience some special museum release wines while future vintages age around you.”
Mr Blocksidge said his tour was different to others in the region by having small group experiences at a few select wineries, meeting wine makers and learning about their craft.
Through an exclusive arrangement with Fraser Gallop Estate, the Margaret River Discovery Company tour group has access to areas of the winery few visitors ever get to see, including fruit processing, barrel samples and pre release wines, and may even include a personal meeting with former Wine Maker of the Year, Clive Otto.
“We also take a spectacular 4WD track, known only to locals, to the landfall from which Cape Mentelle winery derives its name. Spotting a passing Whale or nesting Albatross is a nice interlude between wineries.”
The Margaret River Discovery Company has also introduced sunset canoe tours departing the Margaret River Mouth at 6pm for a leisurely paddle as birds settle to roost for the night.
Guests are rewarded for their efforts with canapés and a glass of premium Margaret River wine as the sun descends over the Indian Ocean for a famous West Coast sunset.
