Tohu Sauvignon Blanc rated as Top 10 in New Zealand

- Tohu Sauvignon Blanc 2008 receives 5 Stars/Top 10 result Cuisine Magazine — As 2008 draws to a close Tohu Wines reflects on a year that has brought change and success

As 2008 draws to a close Tohu Wines are celebrating the end of a highly successful and exciting year with a swag of gold medals for its outstanding quality wines.

Cuisine Magazine has just announced its results for what would arguably be the country’s most competitive tastings, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Tohu Wines are thrilled to be one of the top 10 Sauvignon Blanc producing wine companies in New Zealand receiving 5 Stars for the 2008 Tohu Sauvignon Blanc.

Just last month the same wine also received a Gold Medal at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards, endorsing this wine as a seriously good drop. “It’s great to be part of such a dynamic Kiwi company and to see the quality of our wines recognised through the show system really is the icing on the cake for me as a winemaker” says Bruce Taylor, Tohu Wine’s Winemaker.

Fruit sourced for the Tohu 2008 Sauvignon Blanc was from the company’s owned vineyard located in the Awatere Valley. This spectacular vineyard located 200 meters above sea level is without question one of the many jewels in the Tohu crown. Group Vineyard Manager, Mondo Kopua says “Tohu Wines philosophy is best summarised in its by-line ‘Nga Hua a te Whenua – Our Gift from the land’. It’s an important focus in our management, providing an intimate connection and care with what we do in the vineyard”.

Other award highlights for 2008 include: • Gold and Best of Class at the London International Wine and Spirits Competition for the Tohu Rore Pinot Noir 2006 • Duel Gold Medals for the Tohu Mugwi Sauvignon Blanc 2008 at the New Zealand International Wine Competition and Sydney International Wine Competition.

The 2008 vintage wines mark new beginnings for the company. A recent label refresh and exciting internal structural changes have no doubt culminated to Tohu Wines recent awards success. Mid year Tohu Wines appointed Adrian Lockhart as the company’s CEO. Mr Lockhart brings with him a wealth of experience, leaving his position as Group Winemaker for Constellations Wines Australia. Bruce Taylor, a native New Zealander joined Tohu Wines as Winemaker and Mondo Kopua promoted as Tohu Wines Group Vineyard Manager. These key members of staff are a welcomed addition to the already highly skilled Tohu team.

With outstanding quality wines, exceptional vineyards, a vastly experienced team, and a brand that represents New Zealand’s unique indigenous culture 2009 is set to be a highly successful year for Tohu Wines, “As a young wine company with a fantastic brand these results are the staging of a very bright future for Tohu” , Mr Lockhart commented. — ENDS –
