Coolangatta Estate Semillon wins top trophies

The Shoalhaven Coast Wine Region has again been thrust into the lime light with Coolangatta Estate’s 2001 Shoalhaven Coast Semillon winning the Trophy for ‘Semillon of the Year’ and the runner up Trophy for ‘Wine of the Year’ held in Adelaide last night.

The awards are the culmination of over 10 000 wines submitted to Winestate magazine and are blind tasted by various expert panels over the last twelve months.

The Awards are open to all wine producers from Australia and New Zealand and are judged in 11 categories.

Vigneron and Owner, Greg Bishop was on hand last night to collect the awards was ecstatic with the result, “It is a great result for the region and the vineyard. To have our Semillon ranked in the top two wines for the year from 10 000 entries is a great honour.”

The success of the 2001 Semillon follows the recent Trophy for ‘Best Mature Dry White Wine’ at the 2008 NSW Wine awards last month.

There was other success at the awards for the area with Southern Highlands vineyard, Cutaway Hill also being named as a top 3 Finalist for the their Sparkling wine.
