November 2008, certainly a month to remember at Peter Lehmann Wines

It really has been a remarkable month on both the national and international wine show circuits for Peter Lehmann Wines, and particularly for our 2002 Reserve Riesling and 2003 ‘Wigan’ Riesling. Both wines collecting another 4 trophies each for the month:

2003 ‘Wigan’ Eden Valley Riesling:

2008 Canberra International Riesling Challenge: Hyatt Hotel Canberra & Qantas Airlines Trophy Best Riesling from Australia & NZ Jim Murphy’s Market Cellars Trophy Best Riesling from Australia Actew AGL Trophy Best Museum Class Riesling

2008 Royal Melbourne Wine Show: Douglas Seabrook Memorial Trophy Best White Wine 2004 & Older

2002 Reserve Eden Valley Riesling:

2008 National Wine Show of Australia: The Wine Society Trophy ‘Best Dry White Riesling – Premium Classes’ The J. McCarthy & Co. Pty Ltd Trophy ‘Best Dry White Table Wine of Show’ The Vintage Cellars Trophy ‘Best White Table Wine of Show’

2008 UK International Wine & Spirit Competition: IWSC International Trophy for Riesling ‘Best Riesling Worldwide’

2008 Tri Nations Wine Challenge: Aromatic Wines Class Trophy ‘Best Riesling of Challenge’

Both these wines have impeccable wine show records, with the 2002 Reserve Eden Valley Riesling having collected a staggering 22 trophies and 21 gold medals and the 2003 ‘Wigan’ Eden Valley Riesling has won 8 trophies and 9 gold medals.

Andrew Wigan, Chief Winemaker of Peter Lehmann Wines, said, “These awards cap off an incredible year for all our winemaking team in the show ring. The ’02 Reserve Eden Valley Riesling has now won a staggering 22 trophies and 21 gold medals in total, and the ‘03 ‘Wigan’ Eden Valley Riesling has collected 8 trophies and 9 gold medals along the way as well; and if this doesn’t testify to the Eden Valley being one of the great Riesling producing districts of the world…..then I don’t know what does!

Commenting on the wonderful success for these Rieslings, Doug Lehmann, PLW Managing Director, said, “When James Halliday awarded the ’03 ‘Wigan’ 96 points in his Weekend Australian Top 100 column earlier in the month, and suggested in his notes that Wig “…was godfather of all great rieslings….”, I dare say he realized something that we have known for a long time. And, when you have a great winemaker and winemaking team sourcing fruit from a great region, there is no doubt that it is possible to make the whole world sit up and take note!”

The 2003 ‘Wigan’ is still a current release, but rapidly drawing near to the end of its stock availability, and there has been a very limited re-release for the 2002 Reserve Eden Valley Riesling to a number of selected fine wine retail shops and restaurants around the nation.

Suggested Retail Price: $40.00 per bottle.
