The Doctors’ Celebrate

Forrest Wines latest innovative new label The Doctors’ has got off to a flying start at the 2008 Air New Zealand Wine Awards a week before commercial release in New Zealand.

The Doctors’ Riesling 2008 and the Doctors’ Noble Chenin Blanc 2008 both received trophies for the best wine of the show in their respective categories at the prestigious awards ceremony held in Wellington on Saturday, 22 November. Dr John Forrest, Owner/Winemaker, was overjoyed at the results. “To win two trophies from the inaugural wines in this label is a real achievement for us and a great way to launch this exciting label to New Zealand. If you want something a little bit different think The Doctors’. Forrest Estate of Marlborough has undergone a complete rebranding after twenty years of producing premium Marlborough wine, as the company, now known simply as Forrest has readied itself for the next twenty years. The Forrest range of wines are now split into three clear labels, each with their own philosophy; Forrest, ‘The Valley’s and The Doctors’ “The Doctors’ Label is named after Doctors John and Brigid Forrest, the wines in this range are all about innovation and excellence. New varietals to the area, alternative winemaking techniques and select fruit parcels all combine to make special wines under this unique label”, commented Dan Taylor Sales and Marketing Manager. Wines available this year under The Doctors’ label are; the relatively unknown varietal Arneis, the popular lower alcohol Riesling, a stunning Noble Chenin Blanc and a Methode Traditionelle Sparkling Syrah/ Malbec, made to celebrate John and Brigids daughter Beths, recent Masters in Winemaking graduation. Forrest also scooped Elite Gold for their 2007 Sauvignon Blanc at the same awards, one of only four Elite Golds handed out in this category and the only gold medal for a 2007 Sauvignon Blanc. John Forrest commented “I make a premium Sauvignon designed to flourish with time, encouraging consumers not to rush to the next vintage. This award, off the back of the recent Gold in the US Long Beach Grand Cru awards, shows that this is being recognised and can only enhance Marlboroughs reputation as a premier producer of Sauvignon Blanc”. A selection of wines from the new Forrest labels will be on commercial release from December 1st 2008 across New Zealand including the trophy winning wines.
