The Winemakers’ Federation of Australia believes a Code of Conduct between winegrape growers and wineries will be in place by vintage 2009. WFA chief executive Stephen Strachan told Daily Wine News that the WFA had responded to the list of issues raised by the Wine Grape Growers' Australia and tabled to the WFA, in a manner Strachan said he was confident would appropriately resolve all WGGA concerns. The Code of Conduct has been several years in the making as both WGGA and WFA have sought to ensure a voluntary Code that addresses issues of both grapegrowers and wine producers. WGGA chief executive Mark McKenzie, writing in the current issue of Australian Viticulture, said the Code would be an appropriate tool for guiding fair, open and transparent commercial dealings between wine companies and growers. He said the Code includes a dispute resolution system and that it would underpin essential elements in contracts that foster good business relationships between growers and processors.
