Toast to the Coast Wine and Food Festival

Over the Melbourne Cup weekend on the 1–2 November, 30 wineries around the Geelong region come alive by opening their cellar doors and hosting a weekend full of wine tastings, tours, entertainment, music, food stalls and a variety of events spanning the Surf Coast, Bellarine and Moorabool Valley regions.

Visiting the Toast to the Coast offers a unique experience. From the beaches to the hills, the home of elegant wines and less than one hour’s drive from Melbourne, Toast to the Coast offers distinctive, refined, cool-climate wines along a fun filled weekend with friends and family.

This great weekend costs just $10 and gives you entry into 14 venues and the opportunity to taste over 100 of the region’s best wines. Entry to the event also puts you in the draw to win a holiday to the first class Iririki Resort in Vanuatu!

Geelong has over 50 wineries in the region and eight of those wineries were recognised with the maximum five star rating as an ‘Outstanding winery’ in James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion 2009.

There are activities for everyone over the weekend, including:

Surf Coast

Bellbrae Estate will share the weekend with some wonderful local wineries, breweries and local gourmet food specialists. They have many award winning wines and beers for tasting while listening to the famous Xavier Rudd’s brothers surf band ‘The Pick Ups’ on Saturday and cool jazz on Sunday with Gary Tigarni

The Award Winning Pettavel Winery and Restaurant have organised a weekend full of fun for everyone including rare winery tours by their owner Mike Fitzpatrick, wine tastings from six highly acclaimed wineries, Hummer Stretch Limousine and Harley Davidson motorbike rides, helicopter joy flights, children’s activities and of course great food. They also have cool summer tunes by Better Days on Saturday and Saxalone on Sunday.

Brown Magpie Vineyard is offering Geelong Wine Show award winning wines along with free wood oven pizzas over the entire weekend.

Taste Gold Medal Wines at Feehans Road Vineyard and take a look at Don Thompson’s Art Exhibition.

The Minya Vineyard are hosting a wine memorabilia swap meet, along with a Golf Driving range competition. They will also have live music with Tiago Brissos playing classical guitar on Sunday.

Moorabool Valley

Clyde Park Vineyard has award winning wines and great food including seafood and pizza. Come on a vineyard walk with viticulturist, Damien Lowrey. Enjoy live music at Twilight with Heath Stenton on Saturday and Angie Hilton on Sunday.

Austins Wines and Provenance Wines are looking forward to a great weekend of wine, food and music. They have Gabriel Gate’ performing cooking demonstrations and other activities include wine tutoring sessions, Jason Van Leuven the Chocolatier’s experience and the Nicky Bomba’s band singing funk and reggae on Saturday with Missing Hours playing on Sunday.

Lethbridge Wines, the winner of the best wine in the 2008 Geelong Wine Show, will have wine tours as well as Meredith Dairy and Meredith free range pork BBQ for tasting.

Del Rios Vineyard at Mt Anakie is offering a Spanish theme with Spanish tapas and food along with the tunes from the Latin band ‘Savore’.

The Bellarine

Leura Park Estate is looking forward to a great weekend with wine tastings while enjoying the popular tunes from the well known band Test Pilot Molly. Leura Park also have a variety of local produce to taste including Wicked Mini Dutch Pancakes, The Giant Wok, Halleleura Olive oil and local jams, spreads and more. The Award winning Oakdene Vineyard boasts an original 1920’s homestead where they will be hosting several functions including the Wine Award Showcase Dinner on Friday night and Gala Toast Dinner on Sunday. They will also have a magnificent Orchid Show that shouldn’t be missed.

Visit Mermerus Vineyard and you will meet several local boutique wineries and their winemakers. Come and relax with a glass of wine and listen to songs for the heart, head and dancing feet with Stevan McEwan.

Enjoy a taste sensation at Bellarine Estate with Award Winning wines and beer while tasting local produce. There will be market stalls all around and a jumping castle for the kids. Enjoy the jiving sounds of the local jazz band while enjoying the beautiful views along the Bellarine.

Banks Road Vineyard offers a relaxing weekend. Come and enjoy a wine on the timber deck, while meeting the winemakers and wander around the winery on a guided tour.

This year, Toast to the Coast will be raising money for Barwon Health Foundation, which will go towards equipment for its new Emergency Department.

Jump on a free bus through the Moorabool Region departing regularly from Geelong Train Station or grab some friends and go on a Wine Tour through Gallivantours or For the Love of Grape. The wineries have designated driver programs set up (take out “set up”) for those who choose to drive their friends and family around for the weekend.

We also have top Geelong region restaurants offering Geelong wines over the Toast weekend, so you have the opportunity to enjoy the experience of eating local produce and drinking local wines.
