A total of 470 entries have been received for the 2008 Limestone Coast Wine Show, and the nominations have been lodged by 72 different exhibitors from across the region.
“We’re thrilled with the response – particularly given that it’s happening in a year when most regional shows have had significant drops in the number of exhibits due to difficult harvests,” said Sarah Squire from the LCWS Committee.
As many as 87% of those taking part in this month’s event from October 27–31 opted to register on-line, compared to 75% in 2007.
“We’re pleased that more and more exhibitors are making the most of the facility – it not only increases efficiency, but brings us in line with most national competitions,” Squire said. The highly respected professional wine writer Huon Hooke will be welcomed as new Chairman of Judges, while this year’s guest international judge is UK wine editor and critic Julia Harding MW, who works alongside multi-award winning wine journalist Jancis Robinson MW on a range of publications and the renowned www.jancisrobinson.com website.
“The Limestone Coast Wine Show is one of few regional shows to invite an international judge each year, and we see this as a great opportunity to gain a comprehensive view of the Limestone Coast wine industry and the wines from our region, as Julia is one of the outstanding up and coming influential MW’s in the UK,” Squire said.
This year, judging will return to the event’s ‘traditional home’ at the Coonawarra Hall, while results will be announced at a Presentation of Awards Dinner on Thursday 30th October, from 7pm at Naracoorte Town Hall, where chefs Jason and Sylvie Van Leuven will present a menu served with trophy and gold medal winning wines from previous years. Seats at $140pp are limited, with enquiries and bookings to be made through Sarah Squire. Members of the public are also invited to a $15 per head tasting session at the Coonawarra Hall on 31st October from 11.30am to 1.30pm. An exhibitor’s tasting session will be held from 9am to 11.30am that same morning, with results also available at www.limestonecoastwine.com.au
“Everyone who comes along will also receive a results booklet, giving them a unique opportunity to taste & compare their own palates with those of the judging panel,” Squire said.
