Trophy winner for Rutherglen Estates

Rutherglen Estates 2007 Viognier Rousanne Marsanne took out two trophies at the 2008 Annual Rutherglen Wine Show last week including the Rutherglen Winemakers Perpetual Trophy for Best Dry White Table Wine for the Rutherglen District and The Fine Wine and Spirits Show Perpetual Trophy Best Dry White Table Wine Blends 2007 Vintage & Older.

Winemaker Marc Scalzo was on hand to accept the trophies on behalf of the team at Rutherglen Estates.

“We are very excited about receiving these awards as they recognise the potential of Rutherglen to make world class dry table wines that deliver quality and unique varietal character,” said Marc.

The 2007 Viognier Rousanne Marsanne (VRM) was selected from the best parcels of fruit in the vineyard. Traditionally grown in the Rhone Valley, these white varieties are ideally suited to the conditions of Rutherglen, and the second vintage of the barrel fermented blend of Viognier (45%), Rousanne (35%) and Marsanne (20%) displays this perfectly. This wine has a crisp creamy texture and ripe fruit flavours, with enduring citrus and honey notes on the finish, making it a perfect wine to match with food.

Rutherglen Estates only small quantities of the VRM each year along with two other wines in the Range, the Renaissance Zinfandel and Petit Sirah.
