Wine Industry Suppliers Australia celebrated a year of membership growth and event highlights at its Annual General Meeting last week.
Addressing members, chairman Dr Darren Oemcke said his highlights of the 2007–08 year included the successful hosting of the 2007 Winetech exhibition, held in conjunction with the Australian Wine Industry Technical Conference, and the inclusion of the inaugural WOW award, recognising a new product or service that had ‘wowed’ the wine industry in the years preceding the Winetech event.
He confirmed the next Winetech exhibition would be held in Adelaide in 2010 and said WISA had already had many discussions looking for further improvements and enhancements to the event, which is already the most successful exhibition on the wine calendar.
The inaugural Supplier Of The Year awards held in 2007 was another highlight for Oemcke, bringing suppliers together to celebrate their efforts in contributing to the competitive success of the industry.
Oemcke thanked outgoing WISA committee members, Anita Donaldson, Caroline Vale, Bernard Bouchard and Marie Sulda and made special mention of both Nic Law and Louise Fraser’s contribution to WISA. Law was the former Treasurer of the association and Louise Fraser’s tireless work within the committee, including several years as Chair, is well known amongst suppliers and the wider wine industry.
Oemcke also thanked executive officer Sylvie Clarke for her contribution to WISA and its members.
The new WISA committee members are: Sam Burton, Mai Nygaard, Mark Thompson and Shay Bayly. Returned members are: Steve Dorman, Lyndal Sterenberg and Paul Averay.
Darren Oemcke remains Chair of WISA with Lyndal Sterenberg as vice chair and Paul Averay as Treasurer.
Finalising his address, Oemcke said the WISA would work to re-invigorate its sub-committee process during the coming year and invited members interested in involvement on any of the sub-committees: innovation, export, membership & marketing, environment and Winetech & events, to contact Sylvie Clarke to discuss their interest and areas of potential contribution on (08) 8231 2091 or by email: .">w.
