Quest to find the best NSW wine

This year NSW Wine has been calling on NSW to get behind their State and support NSW Wineries.

This charge to make Sydney-siders more aware of NSW Wine and its 14 diverse wine regions continues with the 2008 NSW Wine Awards and the quest to find the best NSW Wine known as the 2008 NSW Wine of the Year.

Over the next two days (22 – 23 September inclusive) 23 highly qualified judges Chaired by Lester Jesberg will gruel over 800 plus entries to find the 2008 NSW Wine of the Year. 2008 has seen record entries, 7% up on last year.

The quest to find the best NSW Wine will be done over 2 stages and 11 classes of wines with Young Shiraz, Young Other Whites and Young Chardonnay this year being the most popular classes for a chance at the title of NSW Wine of the Year.

Today the first round of judging will take place with 5 panels of judges reducing 800+ entries to approximately 120 entries. In the second round of judging tomorrow, it will be the best of the best judging. There will be 2 panels of judges comprising the Panel Chairs from the first round plus well-respected wine-writer and judge, Huon Hooke. Together they will determine the Top 40 NSW Wines, Trophy Winners and ultimately, the coveted NSW Wine of the Year.

This year the 2008 NSW Wine Awards are going to be bigger and better than ever before with the spotlight on the NSW Wine of the Year, Trophy Winners and Top 40 Wines and the launching of an exciting and unique program of trade, press and consumer events surrounding the announcement of the NSW Wine of the Year at the Black Tie Gala NSW Wine Awards Presentation Dinner on Tuesday 21st October at Coast Restaurant. More information on this program of events will be circulated shortly with a snapshot of dates and times below.
