A former Board member of Murray Valley Winegrowers (MVW) Inc, Guy Darling, has died aged 83.
Guy was a member of the MVW Board for nine years, retiring in December 2007, and also served as Chairman of the Wine Grape Growers Council of Australia (now Wine Grape Growers Australia).
Guy Darling was a pioneer winegrape grower from the King Valley region in North East Victoria and also owned the wine business Darling Estate Wines.
MVW Chairman Michael De Palma says the winegrape industry owes a debt of gratitude to Guy Darling.
“He put in enormous effort to represent growers at national and regional levels and made major contributions to most of the big issues that confronted the industry as it expanded rapidly through the 1990s and into the new century,” Michael said.
“His commitment to the winegrape industry, his concern for growers’ welfare and intellectual capacity he brought to industry policy debate helped immeasurably in the development of the Australian wine industry.”
