Huia ‘walks the talk’ of carboNZero certification

Family-owned New Zealand wine company, Huia Vineyards Limited, has achieved carboNZero certification.

This confirms that the Marlborough wine company is measuring, managing and mitigating its greenhouse gas emissions with credibility and integrity.

Internationally recognised carbon neutral certifier, Landcare Research, helped Huia measure its greenhouse gas emissions, then worked with vineyard manager, Matt Oliver, towards management (reduction) and mitigation (offsetting).

Huia owners, Mike and Claire Allan, regard the certification as a significant endorsement of Huia’s commitment to environmentally sustainable practices. Already, the vineyard and winery are Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand-accredited. Organic certification is the next target, with 2009 likely to be a conversion vintage in a three-year programme towards full BioGro New Zealand registration.
