New Zealand domestic wine sales surge by 24%

The newly released 2016 Australian and New Zealand Wine Industry Directory (WID) weighs in at a massive 610 pages and has comprehensive details on 3,023 Australian and New Zealand wine companies.

Publisher Winetitles Media began the important role of compiling industry statistics, winery contact details and industry suppliers in the one directory in 1983. In 2016, the Directory lists 555 New Zealand wine producers that commercially sell their wine, down slightly from 558 last year.

Elizabeth Bouzoudis (editor) said New Zealand’s wine industry enjoyed great success last year, with domestic sales surging by 24 per cent and exports up 7 per cent to a record NZ$1.4 billion.

‘Looking ahead, those volumes will be difficult to maintain because of this year’s weather-affected vintage, but the industry is on a very strong growth trajectory. This is highlighted by the fact that the area of the country under vine has almost doubled since 2004,’ Bouzoudis said.

The 610-page 2016 Directory includes a comprehensive listing of New Zealand and Australian wine producers, suppliers, distributors, retailers, Australian grapegrowers and contract winemakers, universities and education facilities, writers, wine publications, wine blogs, organisations, events and wine shows and industry personnel — updated annually.

The WID is available from Winetitles Media for A$113.85 in Australia/New Zealand and A$137.00 overseas.
