The picturesque sands of Balmoral Beach on Sydney Harbour will host the ‘Mudgee Food and Wine Fair’ on Sunday 10 August 2008. Connoisseurs of wine can taste their way around 30 of the region’s premium and boutique wineries, and gourmands can devour the fresh, regional produce from this renowned foodie region.
Set to attract 10,000 people, the event is one of Sydney’s longest standing regional food and wine fairs, now in its 18th year. Satisfying Sydney’s appetite for fine food with water views, the Mudgee Region’s vignerons, farmers, producers, restaurants and businesses will bring their country hospitality to the city for just one day. Held from 10am to 5pm, entry is free and a $15 ticket package will buy you a signature glass and five tasting tickets.
“By tasting our region’s best drops, we hope this event will encourage more Sydneysiders to support the local wine industry. The Mudgee Region celebrates 150 years of wine-making this year — it is the third largest grape-growing region in NSW — but we hope to be better represented on Sydney’s wine lists and in retail.” said Mike O’Malley, Mudgee Wine Grape Grower’s Association.
As well as wine, the Mudgee Fine Food Group will exhibit and sell their award-winning sweet honey, olive oils, pickles, jams, cheese, tapenades and wine jellies. Enjoy a hot gourmet BBQ, or food from a number of stalls. There will also be an animal farm to entertain the kids, and a great prize draw including a ‘Mudgee Wine Weekend Getaway’ valued at $750.
The Mudgee Region is 3.5hours from Sydney and produces excellent cabernet sauvignon and shiraz varieties, as well as Italian varietals Sangiovese and Berbera which thrive in the Mediterranean climate. Major cellar doors include Oatley Wines, Robert Stein, Logan Wines, Lowe Family, Huntington, Frog Rock and Elliot Rocke Estate.
Free Shuttle Buses will be operating on a continuous circuit from Balmoral Beach to Military and Spit Roads via Raglan Street and Awaba Street throughout the day.
