2008 Wine Blog Award winners announced

From the American Wine Business Monthly

Wine Blogs are becoming increasingly important.

For the uninitiated, blogs are, generally speaking, websites where authors ranging from wine industry experts to causal consumers offer their thoughts on wine and the wine industry. Blogs, a shortened form of weblog, are usually written in a causal, diary-like format. Most blogs allow readers to immediately respond and interact through a comment area directly following an entry.

In 2007, Tom Wark, a public relations professional and partner at Wark Communications, was an early blogger who organised the Wine Blog Awards in order to honor the best of an ever-growing number of wine-specific blogs. From a pool of more than 700 wine blogs, 24 blogs were nominated in eight categories.

In a two-tiered process, voting was opened to the public on Wark’s Fermentation: The Daily Wine Blog (www.fermentation.typepad.com). While the public vote accounted for 70% of the voting power, the final 30% was given to a panel of wine professionals.

The eight awards were given to six individual blogs, with two collecting two awards. All of the winning blogs can also be found on the winebusiness.com homepage and Wine Industry Blogs webpage.
