Coonawarra appoints Environment Project Manager

The Coonawarra Grapegrowers Association (CGA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Diana Lloyd as the Coonawarra Environment Management Plan (EMP) project officer.

“We look forward to working with Diana to further develop and implement the Coonawarra EMP,” Chris Brodie, CGA president said. “Diana’s experience in project management, environmental auditing and best management practices will serve our region well in what is a very exciting and innovative project.”

Diana Lloyd has qualifications in forest science and workplace training. She is currently completing a Masters in Communications. Diana is known regionally through her work with the forest industry and has extensive experience in working collaboratively within and across industry sectors to achieve outcomes.

Over the past three years the CGA considered and reviewed a number of different models and systems, hosted experts in the field of environmental management, researched the current practice of growers, documented examples of best practice and undertaken a legal review.

In October 2004 the CGA developed and launched the Coonawarra EMP which demonstrates the commitment of the regions Grapegrowers to sustainability and viticultural excellence. The Coonawarra EMP identifies key issues and outlines actions to address these, for both individual growers and for the Association.

The key issues that have been identified are: • Waste management • Water extraction • Biodiversity and conservation • Chemical storage and use • Phylloxera control

The Coonawarra EMP is the first action based, grapegrower driven plan of its kind in Australia, a testament to the professionalism, commitment and vision of the region.
