The annual Queensland Wine Awards is the night of nights for the local wine industry with accolades for wine quality, service quality and contribution to the wine industry. This year Ballandean Estate matriarch, Mary Puglisi, was recognised for her outstanding contribution.
The Samuel Bassett Award is awarded to those who, over a period of time have positively and substantially contributed to the advancement of the industry. Mary accepted the award at a gala awards ceremony at the Qld Cricketers Club in Brisbane on Wednesday night.
Mary has worked tirelessly alongside husband Angelo to establish Ballandean Estate and create a brand that is synonymous with quality wine and service. The award is certainly well deserved after a lifetime of ups and downs in the wine industry.
As well as the Samuel Bassett Award, Ballandean Estate was named 2015 Winery of the Year, with Dylan Rhymer named Qld Winemaker of the Year and Angelo Puglisi Qld Viticulturalist of the Year. Award winning wines included the 2015 Messing About Fiano which was name Best Alternative Wine of the Show.
Great results for the winery after two devastating years of vineyard damage from hailstorms and frost. “These awards are the result of hard work and the determination to never give up,” said Angelo. “The wines speak for themselves and we are proud to share them with our loyal customers.”
