Haselgrove Wines of McLaren Vale was delighted to receive the news that its 2006 HRS Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet was awarded a gold medal at the 2008 International Wine Challenge in London.
The company’s 2006 Vincent’s Breeze McLaren Vale Chardonnay and 2006 HRS Reserve McLaren Vale Shiraz also received awards.
“Whilst we have a strong emphasis on McLaren Vale wines across our range, we source the fruit for our Reserve range from single vineyards of the highest quality,” managing director, Paul Zerella said. “For many years we have produced a powerful Cabernet from Coonawarra and it is gratifying to see our faith in the vineyard again rewarded.”
The IWC judges view of the wine were “Classic Cabernet nose with fine oak, and a fine rich palate with spicy oak. This is a persistent and powerful wine, well made”.
Senior winemaker, Simon Parker said, “The 2006 Cabernet has shown great promise from the start and it is fantastic that this has been recognised. It is a credit to the Coonawarra region, the grower and the winemaking team.”
