Australian Viticulture and Ancient River hosts September field days

Weed control was the focus of the first regional field days to be staged by Australian Viticulture magazine at the Ancient River vineyard, Murchinson, Goulburn Valley, Victoria on 7–8 September 2005.

Hosted by Laurie and Anne Martin, of Ancient River vineyard, over 40 grapegrowers attended day one and saw practical demonstrations of mechanical weed control.

Supplying agents representing 10 manufacturers also discussed the benefits of equipment on show.

The second day attracted over 30 growers, including a grower from Tasmania. Other attendees came from Griffith, Ararat, Mansfield, Yarra Valley, Heathcote and Goulburn Valley.

Laurie Martin said he was pleased with the attendance at the field days and the interest in products demonstrated.

‘From accounts of those who came to the Ancient River, attendees felt the demonstrations in the vineyard were beneficial and interesting,’ he said.

‘Suppliers reported positive enquiry for equipment and some sales were made.’
