Wirra Wirra backs up with gold medal

Following on from last year’s success in the International Wine Challenge — when crowned International Red Winemaker of the Year — Wirra Wirra has once again reinforced its red wine credentials, being awarded a gold medal for its premium 2006 RSW Shiraz at this year’s event.

Samantha Connew, senior winemaker and currently in the UK for the International Wines & Spirits Fair was delighted to phone home with the results. “This is a fantastic result for the winemaking team at Wirra Wirra. The RSW is 100% McLaren Vale shiraz and this is an excellent endorsement for the region’s ability to produce premium red wine which competes on the world stage.”

Indeed two other reds in the Wirra Wirra portfolio also caught the judges eye, with both the 2006 Catapult Shiraz Viognier and the 2006 The Angelus Cabernet Sauvignon being awarded silver medals.

As a gold medal winner, Wirra Wirra will now go forward to a second round of judging to determine trophy winners, which will be announced at the IWC Gala Dinner in September 2008.
