The Trustees, Basil Sellers, James Halliday, Brian Croser and Iain Riggs, of The Len Evans Foundation are inviting applications for the 2008 Len Evans Tutorial to be held at Tower Lodge in the Hunter Valley from 3–7 November.
Scholars from the past seven Tutorials are now gracing the judging benches at all major wine shows across Australia. The 2008 Sydney Royal Wine Show had as former scholars one panel chair, six of the nine Australian judges and 14 and the 15 associates. Later this year Tom Carson, Dux 2002, takes on the Chairmanship of the National Capital Wine Show in Canberra.
The Tutorial program is designed to define the demands of show judging and to define quality by exposing the scholars to the great wine styles of the world. A team of five tutors will put the scholars through their paces in what James Halliday described as “the most exclusive wine school in the world.”
The Tutorial is open to all applicants, regardless of their present position.
“The determining force with all the applicants is their potential, but experience as an Associate Judge at regional shows is beneficial.” Mr Halliday says.
Previous Scholars have come from the fields of winemaking, liquor retailing, restaurants, marketing and journalism.
Twelve fully paid scholarships are being offered, each with wine, food and accommodation valued at around $9000. The only cost incurred by the scholars is physically getting to the Hunter Valley.
The Tutors for the 2008 Len Evans Tutorial are:
James Halliday, Ian McKenzie, Iain Riggs, Gary Steel and Brian Croser.
Candidates for the 2008 Len Evans Tutorial need to send their CV with a detailed letter outlining their reasons for wanting to be a Len Evans Scholar. Names and phone numbers of three industry referees must also be included. Scholars will be selected by a panel.
Applications close Friday September 5 2008 and should be sent via email to ">i
