New Zealand wine trade and media are endorsing Hawke’s Bay Winegrowers’ Hot Red Hawke’s Bay expo as an opportunity not to be missed in the lead-up to next week’s opening.
This year’s Hot Red Hawke’s Bay expo kicks off in Christchurch on Tuesday 20 and will move up the country to venues in Wellington and Auckland by the end of the week.
Up to 28 wineries will present at each of the three events, giving guests the opportunity to sample more red wine in four or so hours than would be possible on a Hawke’s Bay wine tour of the same duration.
The ability to taste a range of top quality Hawke’s Bay wines all under one roof has proven valuable to both trade and media in the past and many say they see great value in attending.
Vic Williams, wine reviewer for the Penguin Wine Guide and Cathay Pacific has attended past Hot Red expos and will be attending this year’s Auckland installation on May 22.
“Hot Red Hawke’s Bay is an excellent opportunity to try a range of red wines from the region regarded as the most versatile wine growing region in the country,” says Mr Williams.
He also adds that he believes the intimacy of the event to be of value to all attendees.
“It is an unusual thing in our part of the world to be able to talk face to face with the people who craft the wine, it’s a great experience for every wine lover,” he says.
Trade representatives, such as Raymond Chan from Regional Wines and Spirits in Wellington, are also some of the expo’s regular attendees.
“The expo is a great opportunity to see the current range of great Hawke’s Bay reds and to taste the different varieties on offer,” says Mr Chan.
“It is important for our business that we attend as we get to meet winemakers we don’t necessarily do business with but who we might like to.
“We also make sure that we advertise the event to our customers. True wine lovers will experience something very special at Hot Red,” he says.
The annual event is open to trade and media representatives at each venue from 2pm and entry for wine enthusiasts is from 4pm – 8pm – an hour longer than in previous years in response to demand.
Hot Red Hawke’s Bay is being held in Christchurch at Millennium Hotel on Tuesday May 20; in Wellington at The Duxton Hotel on May 21; and in Auckland at Rendezvous Hotel on May 22.
General admission tickets are $35 covering a special Hot Red wine glass, wine samples, and canapés. Tickets are available now online through www.winehawkesbay.co.nz
