A great week in wine for Nugan Estate

The Nugan family of Griffith, NSW, collected a trophy at the recent 2005 Griffith Wine Show, and scooped seven gold medals at the 2005 Mundus Vini Wine Show in Germany. Also, chief winemaker Daren Owers was named a finalist for the Wine Society’s Young Winemaker of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Nugan Estate collected the trophy and top gold for its 2005 Cookoothama King Valley Riesling at the 2005 Griffith Wine Show for Best Dry White Wine – Floral Style. Not content with the trophy, Nugan Estate also collected an additional gold for their 2003 Cookoothama Pigeage Merlot plus four silvers and seven bronzes across the portfolio.

Meanwhile, in Germany at the prestigious 2005 Mundus Vini Wine Show, Nugan scooped a whopping seven gold and two silver medals. Gold medal winners were the 2003 Nugan Estate King Valley Chardonnay, 2002 Nugan Estate Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, 2003 Nugan Estate Manuka Grove Durif and 2003 Cookoothama Pigeage Merlot (collecting two gold medals at the show), 2003 Cookoothama Shiraz and 2004 Cookoothama Chardonnay.

This is all in a week’s work for this winery – recently granted an impressive four star rating in James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion 2006.
