On the first Saturday in May each year the Langhorne Creek Winemakers’ Association holds a Wine Showcase at the Langhorne Creek Memorial Hall. The Showcase is open to any commercial winemaker who has produced wine from Langhorne Creek grapes (85% or greater) and this year we have over 100 entries.
An independent panel of judges is given the task of tasting all entries, selecting the top wine in each class and the champion wine of the Showcase. A regional selection six-pack is also chosen and available for sale at the Wine Showcase on 3 May 2008.
This year’s judging panel is led by Mike Farmilo from Boars Rock Winery, with Tyson Stelzer (Wine Writer), Ian McKenzie (national and international judge) and Associate Judge, Emma Requin-Bekkers from Langhorne Creek Winery.
At the annual Winemakers’ Luncheon on Friday 2 May the award winning wines will be announced and guests will enjoy the top wines with a delicious menu prepared by Two Brothers Catering (Adelaide). Up to 350 people attend this invitation only lunch, including industry members, sponsors, politicians and the media. Sponsors include Alcan, Brenton Murray Design, Collotype, Cooperages 1912, Cork Supply, Cospak, National Bank, Vinpac and William Buck.
The Winemakers’ Showcase is open to the general public from 12noon – 4pm on Saturday 3 May at the Langhorne Creek Memorial Hall. Entry is $10 per person. Sponsors and exhibitors will be able to sample the wines from 9.30 – 11.30am – by invitation only.
Local winemakers and grape growers will be available at both sessions to answer questions about the region and the wines. This exceptional line up over 100 wines will highlight the fantastic quality and diversity of the Langhorne Creek region.
Food is available at the hall, at the Bridge Hotel across the road, and at local cellar doors Angas Plains Estate, Bremerton, Bremer Place and Rusticana.
