Calif study tour offered to SA growers

The Wine Grape Council South Australia (WGCSA) is offering grapegrowers the chance to participate in a study tour to California this summer.

The trip will be led by Peter Hackworth, WGCSA executive officer, who has previously organised study tours in California, France and Spain.

Hackworth explained that the tour was being built around giving growers the opportunity to attend the three-day Unified Wine and Grape Symposium in Sacramento.

“This is one of the biggest wine industry events globally; it’s attended by over 13,000 grapegrowers, winemakers and marketers”, he said.

The symposium includes a seminar program and trade show with more than 300 exhibitors and field trips.

“It’s a great opportunity to get a global view of the industry: what’s being planted, what’s selling, the market dynamics and emerging technologies," he said.

"The direction of the wine market is a major theme supported by specialist sessions on producing lower alcohol wines, pests and disease and water use efficiency."

The symposium with be topped and tailed with visits to key Californian wine regions including Paso Robles, the San Joachim Valley and Napa.
