Boutique wine producers take centre stage at wine show

The 2014 Blackwood Valley and WA Boutique Wine Show wowed the judges this year with 278 entries from 55 boutique wine producers across Western Australia.

Rod Properjohn, chief judge of the show, praised both the organisers and the quality of entries.  Properjohn has not only received several awards for his contribution to wine education and journalism in Western Australia, but has also had extensive experience judging wine shows during the 39 years he has been a lecturer with the Wine Education Centre of Wines of Western Australia.

During the wine show awards function, the Blackwood Valley Wine Industry Association announced that 70 per cent of the wines entered received a medal.

Given that the normal medal winning percentage of wines in any wine show is around 50 per cent, these results demonstrate that boutique wineries in Western Australia are producing wines of exceptional quality.

Sponsors of the 2014 event include Label Magic, Bridgetown Hotel, South West Development Commission, FRRR, Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes, Shire of Boyup Brook, Shire of Nannup, Talison, SWAT and Winetitles.
