Racegoers in for a treat at Langhorne Creek

Former MasterChef contestant and renowned chef Andre Ursini has created a menu featuring the best of the Fleurieu Peninsula for racegoers in the Eden Marquee at Langhorne Creek Vignerons’ Day.

Held on Sunday 23 November at the Strathalbyn Racecourse, Langhorne Creek Vignerons’ Day is more than just a horse race, according to organisers.

It’s a celebration of the best gourmet food and wine the Fleurieu Peninsula has to offer.

The Eden Marquee provides racegoers with a high-end, decadent atmosphere to mingle and enjoy racing at its best,  all while indulging in premium Langhorne Creek wines.

Wines by well-known labels Bleasdale, Bremerton, Hand Crafted by Geoff Hardy, Howlin’ Gale, Lake Breeze and The Winehouse will be available on the day by the bottle or glass.

Ursini, who also runs Andre’s Cucina and Polenta Bar in Adelaide, said he's looking forward to being involved.

“It’s my first time at the races in this capacity and I’m really excited about being involved,” Ursini said.

“I’ve put this menu together especially for Langhorne Creek Vignerons’ Day with spring and the amazing Fleurieu Peninsula produce in mind.”

Langhorne Creek Vignerons’ Day this year celebrates its 21st birthday, an achievement Strathalbyn Racing Club chairman Clynt Johansen says highlights the event’s popularity.

“It’s gone from strength to strength over the years and has become a highly-regarded, fun event that’s not to be missed,” he said.

“It’s a great opportunity to enjoy not only the racing, but the fabulous food and wine that’s available right here on the Fleurieu Peninsula.”

Robyn Follett, from the highly-regarded Lake Breeze boutique winery, said she is looking forward to serving her award-winning wines noted for their depth of flavour.

“Our family members have been grapegrowers in Langhorne Creek for 120 years and winemakers for almost 30," she said.

"We’re passionate about the region and producing the best wine possible.

“Langhorne Creek Vignerons’ Day gives us the perfect opportunity to showcase our wines and for others to enjoy them.”
