Award-winning winery on the market

Gisborne's Kirkpatrick Estate Winery located on Patutahi Plateau has been placed on the market for sale.

The boutique business is one of few in the region to combine a winery and vineyard on site, allowing it to produce high quality, estate-grown wines.

After 10 years enjoying a rewarding lifestyle, owner Simon Kirkpatrick has decided to sell the property to pursue a career in consultancy.

“After achieving my goals and dreams in the New Zealand wine industry during the past decade, the time is right for me to move on and allow a new owner to take over and realize their own vision for the winery,” he said.

The property has been placed on the market through Bayleys Gisborne salespeople Tony Rasmussen and Simon Bousfield.

It comprises the land and buildings, winery plant, equipment and the option to purchase wine in vats and barrels, as well as unlabelled bottled wine.

“This is an opportunity for an investor to take over a successful business that is currently harvesting 5.49 hectares of top quality grapes across six varieties and turning it into award-winning wines," Rasmussen said.

"Additional income streams are from the cellar door, VIP database, wine tours and venue hire.

“A new owner could step in and take over the existing vineyard and winery straight away with all the early season work done.

"This is the perfect opportunity for someone with a passion for wine and winemaking."

The 8 hectare property is located at 569 Wharekopae Road and has been accredited by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand for it environmentally-friendly policies and practices.

The vineyard area comprises 34 per cent Merlot, 37 per cent Chardonnay, 3 per cent Malbec, 14 per cent Gewürztraminer, 11 per cent Viognier and 1 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon.

Within the winery there is a cellar door, office, wine laboratory and workshop where machinery used in the vineyard is maintained.

The four-bedroom home is situated on an elevated site with a large terrace that has expansive views over Poverty Bay toward Young Nick Head.

Tenders for Kirkpatrick Estate Winery close on November 12, unless sold prior.
