MorganField Vineyard, just outside Lancefield in Central Victoria, has had a major refit of its cellar door and, only an hour from Melbourne, is a great destination for Melbournians seeking a day in the country. The charming rustic cellar door now offers an extended lunch menu, based on seasonal fresh produce, much of it locally sourced.
“We want our cellar door to showcase the great local produce as well as our wines,” said vineyard owner Gina Morgan.
Sample MorganField’s trophy winning wines along with delicious gourmet pies, such as lamb and rosemary or Thai chicken curry, antipasto platters served with locally produced extra virgin olive oil, cheese platters or a combination of the two followed by delicious home made cakes and dessert with freshly brewed tea and coffee.
Alfresco dining is also available in the delightful adjoining gardens, where guests can prepare their own barbecue with locally farmed beef. Gina and Mark Morgan will need a few days notice to pre-order the meat, and they can provide salads or visitors can provide their own.
In the short time MorganField has been operating, the vineyard has already won many medals and a major trophy. Last year the Morgans won three medals for three of the four wines they exhibited in last year’s prestigious Macedon Ranges Wine Show. MorganField won Bronze for their 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2005 Chardonnay and 2006 Unwooded Chardonnay. A great result following on from winning the Gold Medal and Longfellows Insurance trophy for best red wine other than Pinot Noir in the previous year’s Wine Show, for their Cabernet Sauvignon.
The charming property is well worth a visit with 10 of its 65 scenic acres under vine – pinot gris, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon and pinot noir. It is an easy hour’s drive from Melbourne, located just outside Lancefield at 104 Ashworths Road, Lancefield, Victoria. Cellar door hours are between 11 am and 5 pm weekends and public holidays or by appointment. Bookings are advisable for lunch, phone +61 3 5429 1157.
