The first half of 2008 will see changes in leadership at the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation (Wine Australia), with a new Board being appointed along with a new Chief Executive.
The Australian wine sector is entering an exciting phase of development and with the strategic framework of Directions to 2025 in place; the new appointments will have the opportunity to bring a fresh approach to the continued implementation of strategies, reinforcing the industry’s key tenets of quality, diversity and sustainability.
With Bob Granger as Presiding Member, the AWBC Selection Committee is tasked with finding the best candidates for the Board. Comprised of seven members and a Chairperson, the Board sets the overall strategic direction for the Corporation. The current seven members’ terms of appointment expire on 30 April 2008 except for the Chairman, whose term expires on 30 June 2009. The Selection Committee will commence the process with advertisements being placed in the national newspapers and the Wine Australia website on Friday 19th January.
In addition, the search is about to commence for a new Chief Executive following the decision of Sam Tolley to step down after 13 years at the helm. His decision, effective from February 7, was recently announced by the AWBC’s Chairman, The Hon John Moore AO.
“It has been an exciting time but also a hectic time and I think I am now ready to follow up new interests,” Mr Tolley said. “I am very satisfied with what the Corporation has achieved, as I am with its sound financial position, and I am extremely positive about the sector’s future.”
The AWBC’s Corporation Secretary, Jock Osborne, will be Acting Chief Executive until a new appointment is made.
