Mulyan Wines awarded dual blue-gold & Top 100

Cowra’s Mulyan Wines has been awarded dual blue-gold medals for two of its wines at the 2008 Sydney International Wine Competition.

Mulyan’s current release Chardonnays, the 2006 Mulyan ‘Block 7’ Cowra Chardonnay and the 2006 Mulyan Cowra Chardonnay, were both awarded blue-gold medals, with the Mulyan Block 7, also receiving a position in the Competition’s Top 100 wines.

In addition, the Mulyan Cowra Viognier 2006 was awarded a Highly Commended at this prestigious competition.

Whilst Cowra is gaining a reputation for its red wines, it continues to prove that it is a world class producer of Chardonnay.

All of these wines were judged with food, by a team of internationally acclaimed wine judges, including Chief Judge Kym Milne MW and Neil Hadley MW from Australia, Doug Frost MS MW from the USA and Cathy van Zyl MW from South Africa.

“The Competition is unique for this reason,” commented Mulyan owner and Vigneron Peter Fagan. “We strongly support this particular show, as much of the wine consumed in Australia is with food. The results from this show become a great tool for restaurants, cafés and consumers who are looking for new wines that have proven their compatibility with food.”

2007 has been a particularly successful year for Mulyan wines with their 2005 Mulyan ‘Block 9’ Cowra Shiraz Viognier also receiving high praise. The wine was the winner of the top Gold Medal (class 79) at the 2007 Cowra Wine Show as well as one of the Top 40 in the NSW Wine Awards.

“We have paid particular attention to quality in our 55 hectare vineyard over the past few years, and the results are starting to flow through,” explained Peter.

The final results of the 2008 Competition, along with the trophy winners, will be announced on the 1st March 2008 at the Awards Presentation Banquet. Further information is available at www.top100wines.com.au.
