The latest vintage of Australia’s most awarded Sparkling has been released just in time for Christmas, complete with elegant new packaging.
The 2002 Arras from Tasmania’s Bay of Fires was today released by sparkling winemaker Ed Carr, who proclaimed it one of the best vintages ever.
‘My sparkling winemaking team is committed to producing the highest quality sparkling wines possible, reflecting individual regional characteristics, and Arras is the pinnacle of our efforts’, he said.
These efforts have been recognised by judges at the 2008 Sydney International Wine Competition, where the 2002 Arras will receive the National Australia Day Council Trophy for best Australian sparkling wine.
Arras excels on the capital city wine show circuit, most recently collecting five gold medals and a trophy for consecutive vintages between 1998 and 2002 at the Vintage Cellars National Wine Show in Canberra.
Carr and his sparkling winemaking team have now won more than 100 Trophies at Australian capital city wine shows, and Mr Carr holds the seemingly unbeatable record of 21 consecutive Best Sparkling White of Show Trophies at capital city wine shows.
‘I believe Tasmania is Australia’s leading region for sparkling wines and we have hand picked select parcels of premium Tasmanian pinot noir and chardonnay fruit for Arras. This fruit is then whole bunch pressed to ensure freshness and elegance of structure in this wine.’
‘The traditional methode champenoise is used in crafting Arras to obtain maximum quality, including extended maturation on yeast lees,” Carr said.
‘This has built additional complexity and depth of character into the wine, and the result is a perfectly balanced palate.’
‘The quality of Australian sparkling wines has increased significantly over the past five years and we’re now seeing a number of sparkling wines that are able to rival the world’s best’, he said.
The 2002 Arras will be in retail stores over the coming weeks or can be ordered via the customer service centre on 131 492.
