Following the successful Mastercard 2004 International Wine Tourism Conference held in the Margaret River, WA, the Committee of Management of the Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association (AMRTA) made a decision proceed with a conference in 2006 and 2008. However, according to Merilyn Hutton, chairperson of the AMRTA in a letter to members and sponsors, at the eleventh hour of Director of the conference, Pauline McLeod, resigned as general manager of the AMRTA.
The board did not feel confident in proceeding as planned with the 2006 conference, and decided to postpone the conference until 2007, to allow time for a review of the situation to ensure that the future conference would have sufficient lead in time and assurance of the same success as the 2004 conference.
