Bellbrae Estate wins gold at the 2007 Geelong Wine Show

Bellbrae Estate has won the award for Most Successful Exhibitor at the 2007 Geelong Wine Show. They came away with Best Classic or Alternative Varietal Wine or Blend for their 2007 Bellbrae Estate ‘Southside’ Sauvignon Blanc, a gold for their 2005 ‘Addiscott’ Pinot Noir, a silver for the 2005 ‘Gundrys’ Shiraz, and a silver and a bronze for two unreleased 2006 Pinot Noir’s.

Matthew di Sciascio, winemaker at Bellbrae Estate, was most pleased with the Award for the Most Successful Exhibitor. He stated, “the reason we enter wines into shows is to benchmark our wines against those of our peers. We have been successful across our whole range of wines, which is very pleasing and give us the confidence to know that our wine making is heading in the right direction.”

This backs up a great year for Bellbrae Estate, after last year they took out Wine of the Show for the Geelong Region.

The Geelong Wine shows gala presentation dinner was held at the Ford Discovery Centre on Friday night. The show aims to bring together the big and small producers of the region, and showcase their talents and wines. The prestigious judging panel includes James Halliday, international wine judge and wine writer, David Bicknell, chief winemaker at Oakridge Estate, and Ben Edwards, President of the Australian Sommeliers Association.

Bellbrae Estate is a participating winery in the ‘Toast to the Coast’ event on November 3 and 4th this year. ‘Toast to the Coast’ is the Geelong regions annual Wine and Food Festival. It is a festival weekend that occurs at cellar doors across the whole region. You can come and try the winning Bellbrae Estate wines, taste specially selected local produce and listen to free live music at the cellar door. For more information go to www.toast2coast.com
